Brutus, Cassius, and other high-ranking Romans murder Caesar, because they believe his ambition will lead to tyranny. Moving, captivating!

If you know about Shakespeare, then I strongly suggest you rent/buy this movie. Many people, as well as I, think it's the best version of 'Julius Caesarfor many reasons. It goes along with the events very accurately, and if you've read Shakespeare's book, you'll see it's like having the very thing acted out on screen. I also might add that the acting is excellent, especially Gielgud, who was my personal favorite. However, all the actors were wonderful, from Ceasar to Lucius. Even the battle scene reminded me a bit of some of the scenes in Spartacus...

There's just something about this movie that is very appealing. The powerful (and sometimes funny) Cassius is the most captivating character. A lot of the times I could just feel his anger- Brutus, of course, is a very melancholy character, but for him I didn't feel as much as I did for some of the others. Marc Antony was superb, and his presentation of near insanity (Okay, so he's crazy!) that builds up throughout the movie is breathtaking.

You must read the book, or else you probably won't be able to follow this movie. Really all you need to do is go through it with someone who knows how to translate it into easier terms, and then it's like learning a language, and you'll know exactly what the people are talking about, and feel very smart! Lol, this is a classic. A must see!

[And may Cassius, Brutus, Caesar, Calpurnia, Casca, and all the other actors who portrayed these characters, rest in peace!]

Not perfect, but very good

Albert Lamorisse is mostly known for his beloved classic 'The Red Balloon', but before that he made this 'White Mane', which is almost as good. Although 'White Mane' is not absolutely perfect, it certainly is and feels authentic. I could say this is a must for anyone who loves horses. It is, that I can't deny. But in my book one doesn't necessarily have to love horses to enjoy this. It's all a matter of liking this sort of films.

This short film is about a wild stallion in a wild region of France and his friendship with a fearless and adventurous young boy. The film tells how they meet and how they develop their friendship. This boy becomes the only human really worthy of the stallion's trust.

The beauty of the cinematography is one of the best things about this. What we see is pure and natural, a "wilder" France not often seen in movies (that is, as far as I know). The boy is wonderfully portrayed by Alain Emery. The boy and the stallion have a perfect chemistry.

This should definitely be on Top 250.

Nanard

"Nanard" is French for "abysmal dud"

Jean Boyer made estimable comedies when Fernandel was at hand:"Senechal Le Magnifique" and "Le Couturier De Ces Dames" ;when he could recruit Michel Simon and Arletty (" Circonstances Attenuantes" ) it was a delight.

Maurice Chevalier is absolutely unbearable as an old beau who wants to be still young ("tomorrow I'm 20" is one of his repetitive songs) .Only ham can describe his work;the same can apply to the seven girls who pass for his illegitimate daughters (?),for his son (played by stage and TV actor Louis Velle),who is more interested in insects than in women ,for the servant (an abominable Paolo Stoppa);as though it were not enough ,there is also an entomologist who resembles Hergé's Professeur Tournesol (Pr Calculus).

The subject of old age getting closer had already been tackled by Sacha Guitry ,but Jean Boyer is not Sacha Guitry,by a long shot.

Whaling stories

Mark Robson must have remembered he directed in 1943 the absolutely remarkable "ghost ship " ,one of his VaL Lewton productions,all of which worth seeking out.

that's why the second third is arguably the best : a delightful villain (Stanley Baker,who else?),a mystery , a disturbing atmosphere in the depths of the ship;Robson can make the best of the hold and of the engine room.

More than the bland heroine ,Gerda is for the time a very modern character that should have been more developed ;it's her that should have accompanied Ladd in the final chase,not the frail clueless girl.

The last third seems a bit botched anyway ,but it's an entertaining adventures movie.

Weak sagebrush tale about a prison break...

DALE ROBERTSON is a marshal unjustly prisoned in an Arizona jailhouse who hinders and then helps a prison break plan concocted by VIRGINIA MAYO. This has the look of a low-budget movie that was put together hastily with a second-rate script and designed as a programmer to fill out a double bill.

VIRGINIA MAYO looks absolutely beautiful but her hairdress and costuming is strictly from the 1950s--and so is her overall demeanor as a tough gal who thinks she's in love with the brutish STEPHEN McNALLY.

Among the supporting cast, Whit Bissell, Arthur Hunnicutt, Robert Keith, Earl Holliman and Irving Bacon have all seen better days.

It affords only minimal entertainment with a standard prison break climax not too convincingly staged. Of the actors, only the handsome and stalwart DALE ROBERTSON looks as though he believes in his role, bringing strength and sincerity to his role as the marshal.

You can afford to miss this one.

Doesn`t Live Up To Its Potential

Victor Mature plays Lt Sam Pryor an American officer of Greek descent who is given the task of leading a platoon of Greek soldiers during the Korean war

This had the potential to be a fairly good war film dealing with profound subjects like cowardice , ethnicity and identity . Unfortunately somewhere along the line something went wrong but I`m not entirely sure what . I guess all the ingrediants are there for a deeply scathing anti- war film but since THE GLORY BRIGADE has a fairly short running time it`s probably been produced by the studio as a B movie to be put on before the main feature which is a pity since it had a lot of potential , but I guess it deserves some credit for pointing out that the Americans didn`t fight the Korean war single handed

Great film by Luis Lucia, very amusing to see.

The "Priest José" (Adolfo Marsillach), they spend to help in a small Church in a suburb near Madrid. But when it comes learns that the parish priest has died, and now he has to do over the administration and the functioning of the church, until the lord bishop decides. The local inhabitants living in poor conditions material and moral. Only an older woman and very blessed "Doña Casilda" (Margarita Robles), owner of the best house of the neighborhood, practicing religion in her way. "Ramón" (Jose Isbert), the sacristan, puts the flow of the miseries of the place. And the "Priest José", instead of collapse, his takes as a great challenge. His mission will try to people to come back again their gaze to God.

This film can be classified as gender "Drama-Religion", which in those years were films very frequently. In this shows a direct the misery of the outskirts of Madrid in a very daring for the years that filming the movie, but probably consented by the religious approach of the script.

Excellent scenarios for this scenario, as well as a successful photography in black and white. The players both children who acted as the people make an extraordinary job, are the center of the film. Adolfo Marsillach makes a good role of priest commensurate with the tastes of those years. Jose Isbert, has one of its splendid performances, undoubtedly a master.
